During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, the drum compass was an essential instrument at sea. Its stable low round design made it ideal for ships, where rolling waves could easily disturb the accuracy of traditional compasses. Housed in a protective case with a removable lid, it remained readable even in the most demanding conditions.
The bold compass rose pattern with clear degree markings and distinct cardinal directions makes this piece just as decorative as it is functional. The solid metal frame and its warm surface tone evoke a sense of history and adventure, calling to mind great explorers and classic navigation.
A perfect addition to a desk or bookshelf, or a thoughtful gift for those with a passion for maritime tradition. It is a piece that speaks of curiosity, precision and timeless design.
